Breda currently has 180,000 citizens. Since the local restructuring in 1997, the smaller towns of Ulvenhout, Bavel, Prinsenbeek and Tetering have been considered part of the city. Other towns Princenhage and Ginneken became a part of Breda back in 1942.
Based on the number of citizens, Breda is one of the Netherlands’ ten biggest cities. It’s the third biggest city in Noord-Brabant, after Eindhoven and Tilburg.
Breda has grown to become a modern city that, thanks to its historical look, has its own authentic atmosphere.
Innovative architectural developments have made Breda the city it is today. Clear examples are the Chassé Theater (Herman Hertzberger), the new inner city neighborhood Chassé Park (Rem Koolhaas) and Mezz Concerts&Dance (Erik van Egeraat). In Breda, contemporary and historical buildings complement one another in a special way, merging together flawlessly.
