The Chassé Theater was designed by architect Herman Hertzberger and has a wavy roof. The architect was inspired by a sculpture of a lying woman.
The name Chassé comes from General Chassé, who the former barracks was named after.
Beneath the wavy roof, there are three stages, three cinema screens, two theater towers and a large foyer called the ‘theater street’.
The Chassé Theater and Holland Casino share the entrance hall.
The Chassé Theater offers theater, opera, dance, music, musical cabaret and film in many different forms. The variety of the program makes the Chassé Theater unique in the Netherlands.
No theater has a program as varied as the Chassé Theater, ranging from Broadway musicals to small experiments, from orchestras to exotic folk music and from classical ballet to post-modern dance.
The Chassé Theater also offers an extensive children’s program.
